Reviewing a manuscript

When you are invited, you will receive an email with a link to the review. Log in to accept or decline, download the anonymised manuscript, and submit your comments and recommendation through the review form.

Reviewer guidelines

Thank you for reviewing for Soil & Environment. Your expert assessment helps the editors reach a fair decision and helps authors improve their work.

What we ask of reviewers

• Respond to the invitation promptly, and decline if you have a conflict of interest or lack the relevant expertise.
• Complete the review within 4 weeks of accepting, or tell the editor early if you need more time.
• Keep the manuscript and the review confidential, and do not use unpublished findings in your own work.
• Do not upload the manuscript to public AI tools or other third-party services.
• Comment on originality, relevance to the journal's scope, soundness of methods and statistics, whether the conclusions follow from the results, and the clarity of presentation.
• Be specific and constructive; separate essential revisions from optional suggestions.
• Give your recommendation to the editor: accept, minor revision, major revision or reject.
